Steph Dutton paddled from British Columbia to Baja California in 1993, 1,600 miles in 54 days of paddling over 64 total days. He wore an artificial leg as a result of a 1978 car accident. The trip encountered 17-foot swells and 28-knot winds off Oregon. Dutton estimated he made two million paddle strokes. The expedition was sponsored by National Handicapped Sports.
